Full marks for the originality of the story Chup Revenge of the Artist: a serial killer is on the loose in Mumbai, targeting film critics. Oooh, make me shake the beams. Chup Revenge of the Artist: The problem with Chup (ugh, I'm actually saying that) is that, while I smiled at the weirdness of the plot, it wasn't successful enough to stop me believing: the characters feel like something out of a fantasy, set in the backstreets of Bollywood-soaked Bandra, and if that was the intention, this one needed more power. The best fancies must be grounded, and this conceit never seems serious enough.

At one point, the cuts back and forth between murders and fainting lovers are too staccato. You want the film to breathe, which it does when the two strike fantastically into the light: the thing between Danny and Nila (a clever name for the film's crazy girl, which means moon in Tamil) is charming. The writing credits are shared between R Balki, Rishi Virmani and film critic Raju Sen, and you immediately want to know from the latter: Freudian lot?
You wish there were more of those bits as 'Chup' feels like a love letter to movies and Mumbai: reverent references to Guru Dutt and his films, especially the critically panned 'Kaagaz Ke Phool', now considered for the classics, it counterpoints the killer's hatred of this bunch. But then it goes back to toothless gore and bloody gore, the intrigue dissipates; clever viewers will soon discover the killer.
Chup Revenge of the Artist: It's good to see Sunny Deol back in films; Bhatt's cameo is hilarious. Dulquer Salmaan is pretty relaxed and Dhanwantry is beautiful: she's played a journalist before in "Fraud 92", but here she makes her Nila a different, gun-toting mom who shines at her feet (Ponnavanan). But the mixture of menace and romance begins and remains uneasy, ultimately making a film about dream-makers and those who destroy those dreams less satisfying than it should be. Should I take it seriously or laugh at it? Ultimately, it comes down to this: do you really believe that movie critics have the power to kill movies? Especially in today's digital age where everyone is a critic, not just a professional? It is also true that good films always find their audience, but do bad films deserve to die unsung? Near the end, a character says: the film works on word of mouth, not critics, and that directly undermines the premise of the film. If critics really have less influence than doltic trolls these days, why bother going after them?

Balki, Chup: Revenge of the Artist beat several big names and films Bollywood A-listers like Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, Starring, Laal Singh Chaddha, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, starrer, JugJugg, Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role of Shamsher and the Hindi version of RRR. With National Cinema Day on Friday, September 23, 2022, and tickets being sold at a discounted price of just ₹75, theaters across the country are seeing huge interest; movie theaters struggled with box office hits throughout the year.
Chup: Revenge of the Artist has pre-sold 1.3 million tickets in three national chains, while 83 has pre-sold 1.17 million tickets, JugJugg Jeeyo has pre-sold 57,000 tickets and the Hindi version of RRR has pre-sold 1.05 lakh tickets. The film also reportedly beat Gangubai Kathiawadi, Samrat Prithviraj and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (all A-rated films).
